My First Wreck

Today's been an interesting day. Today was a special day for me. Today I got to experience my first wreck. By experience I mean that I was riding shotgun and only involved in it, not driving one of the vehicles, but it was still a near head-on collision.

We were on our way to our stream for class, traveling eastbound around 40 mph and approaching a green light. Another vehicle, a small car facing westbound, decided to left turn in front of us, right into our lane of traffic. To minimize damage, my friend, the driver, swerved left and the passenger front ends collided. (I could go into the mechanics and dynamics of the wreck, like I did in my sledding accident post, but I do not wish to repeat myself there. Instead, now would be a good point to make an aside about the Large Hadron Collider. This thing is so cool, but I don't fully understand it. But I've always been fascinated by black holes, and space in general. In fact, the only point in this aside is to point out some subtle things you may not have noticed before, but I can't point them out to you. If you notice them, kudos; if not, say sorry and move along. Like in STAR WARS where the stormtroopers tell Luke, Obi-Wan, C-3P0, and R2-D2.)

So, anyway, the wreck was very fast. Firstly, no one was injured, for which I thank the Lord. I have a pretty stiff and sore neck and shoulder and a small bruise on my chest from the seatbelt, but nothing serious. Secondly, the wreck wasn't my friends' fault; it was the other guy who ran the YIELD ON GREEN sign. Thirdly, the truck was totaled, roont. Fourthly, and finally, we still went on to class, even though we were about 30 minutes late.

And in the stream we finished surveying our reach. We also shot a cross-section of our channel and will be plotting it soon for homework. We even got to do a pebble count, but this time it wasn't as cold as before. Still pretty cold, just not as cold.

For the long of it, today's been an interesting day. An automobile accident, a stiff neck (no pun intended), homework, 45 minutes of Fallout 3, more homework, and then Heroes. Actually a pretty good day, except for the whole wreck thing.

Yowtch! Glad to hear no one was severely hurt. Is this the intersection of Eastern Parkway and Speed parking lot?

Ack, I hate me some car accidents. Whiplash may set in something nasty over the next few days, Logan, be forewarned.

Good to hear there were no serious injuries. When I had my accident (I think we all get at least one) the 4WD that hit me sent the engine of my little Daewoo Matiz into the passenger seat (it was occupied by a Meatosaurus pizza) and the steering column into my knee. The whiplash was the real killer, though. I couldn't move for two days without feeling like there was a car on top of me... again.

Time for pizza, me thinks.

Correct intersection, Bill. Very lame-o.

And Cap'n, absolutely right there. I woke up this morning a few hours before I normally would wake up due to the excruciating pain in my neck. I can't really turn my head left at all. Hopefully this goes away pretty soon. I bet the Meatosaurus pizza looked like blood and guts were splattered all over the engine, eh?

Wow, sorry about the accident, man. Glad to hear no one was hurt. When my mom got whiplash from an accident once, she had to wear a neck brace for a few weeks. Hope it doesn't get that bad, friend!

OOOFFF! Pretty nasty. Is that a Chevy? Or what used to be a chevy?

I'm at the end of the story line in Fallout3; next up is all the side quests. I think tonight I'll go looking for the downed spaceship. I want the Alien weapon, I want it bad!

Aye, that's what's left of a Chevy S-10.

As for Fallout 3, I'm meeting President Eden, but I've done almost all of the side quests already. I decided to side quest and level up before striking out looking for "dad". Did I mention I blew up Megaton?

What kind of class were you late for?? Studying pebbles in a stream? That sounds like my kinda job!
I have yet to experience my first wreck...sigh...one day...

Ouch, poor Megaton. I opted to save them. I get rewarded now and again with some random rushing up with 8 bottle caps, or something equally meaningless. Damn the good Karma. Megaton should have gone up!

Blowing it up was quite spectacular, Marky. I did it at night, very very far away, and the giant explosion/cloud was very visible. People hate me for it, though. And even my dad asked me if I did it and that he was disappointed in me.

I don't regret it one bit.

I'm beating the game tomorrow, or that's the plan.

I was like, "what the hell?..."

I get email updates of the comments, and had no idea what the context of this comment was...

No it makes sense :)

Brandon Barr, the class is actually a Stream & Wetland Restoration grad class. We do pebble counts, erosion prevention/correction, and try to understand the mechanics of a stream. I've got a post or two about it somewhere in the past month if you're interested.
