Monday, A Review

Yesterday was quite possibly the sickest I’ve ever been.  While at first I thought it was food poisoning, I’m no longer certain.  I had all of the symptoms of food poisoning, but I never vomited.  Furthermore, I found out that there is a stomach bug of the vilest nature traveling ‘round the lands, and perhaps it decided to attack me.  Whatever the case, I was sick.

In fact, I still am feeling the effects of yesterday.  All I managed to eat was a few saltine crackers and a bowl of chicken noodle soup.  The ginger ale and Sprite were both helpful, too.  Still, I don’t feel like eating right now.  My stomach is pained, but I know I should eat.

Since I’ve been dieting and trying to lose weight, I weighed myself on Sunday morning.  I decided to weigh myself last night, too, to see how much weight I lost, and it was around 5 pounds.  An excellent, albeit unpleasant, weight loss program.

Really, I didn’t do much of anything yesterday.  Stella and I lay around in bed until around 11 or so, then I got up and took some Excedrin for a killer headache and drank a giant glass of water.  We watched an episode of Law & Order and I downloaded a demo for the PS3.  By 2-ish I was ready to go back to bed, and Stella was too.  Keisha got home about 4, checking on me, and then she went and picked up some more crackers and ginger ale.  I got out of bed an hour or so later and played a little Batman: Arkham Asylum.  An episode of House, Big Bang Theory, and CSI: Miami later, I was ready for bed again.  Did a little reading and I was out of it.

I feel well enough to try work today, so we’ll see how that goes.  I don’t like missing work, especially when all I can do is lay around and feel like crap.  Yet, when I feel like crap, I don’t want to go to work.  Quite the conundrum.

Overall, Monday was a cruddy day.  Hopefully I’ll get to feeling better and the rest of the week will be great.

Random Bits & Pieces

  • I finally got paid, which is great, as my mortgage was due yesterday!
  • I’m loving Pomplamoose.  Thanks for sharing, Dave.
  • Should I look into an IRA, or is my 401(k) good enough?  My employer matches nothing, and I’m only investing around 2.5% of my income right now…
  • Maybe a review of Best Served Cold by week’s end.  If not, by next week’s end.
  • Writing Wednesday’s tomorrow.

Being sick is no fun. Sounds like Stella took good care of you. Glad to hear you're back among the living.

@Crystal: Ha, that's exactly what my boss said to me today. "Glad to see you back among the living, Logan. Presumably."

Yes, Stella took excellent care of me. While I was shaking and freezing to death beneath the covers, she attempted to keep me warm, and I was very thankful.

Glad you are doing better! I hate being sick but you sound as though you had a wonderful lil' side kick :)

Oh, and I thought you might find this blog worth reading especially that first story there.

@Krista: Aye, not fun at all. Thanks for the link, too! I'll check it out.

Ouch Logan, Hope your feeling better...and really, there's no better way to kick off a diet than getting sick. Your stomach shrinks, food isn't as desirable as it once was...a blessing in disguise ;)

Glad you're liking that band. I'm digging it as well. Web lurking is fun, eh! Turns up some gems now and then...

In a way, I'm not surprised it's taking you a while to get through Best Served Cold. I found it a bit of a let-down compared to the First Law series. I'm curious to see what you'll think of the ending...

I'm also a bit bummed at season 3 of Big Bang Theory! I don't think Penny and Leonard make a good couple. And every episode is about sex, which is annoying. At least what I saw of last night's episode seemed to go against that trend (the Stan Lee/court appearance episode). Honestly, for a bunch of nerds, they sure seem preoccupied with sex an awful lot. I enjoy them most when they're being all smart and geeky...

I'm actually thinking of cashing out of my Roth IRA and using the accumulated dough to pay my tax bill this year, as well as killing some of my credit card debt. I won't bore you with the details. But I would go with a Roth rather than a traditional IRA, since the money that goes into a Roth is already-taxed income. Sure, you don't get to deduct it from this years' taxes, but in the long term, every dollar you put into it won't be taxed when you take it out. Only the money that it earns above and beyond the money you invested. At the moment, because the market took such a dump last year, my IRA has still not quite climbed back up to the point where it's earning above what I've invested over the past few years. So I can take it all out tax-free at the moment.

Hope you're back to 100% soon.

@Brandon: Thanks, friend. Indeed, a blessing in disgust disguise.

@Dave: It's definitely a let down compared to The First Law trilogy. I'll be reviewing soon, hopefully. And I agree about this season of Big Bang Theory, too. Penny and Leonard were much more funny before they were a couple. Nay, everyone was much more funny before the two were a couple. Stan Lee was fun, though...

I think my brain glazed over reading that IRA/Roth stuff. Gluzzzzz.

At least you got a few small things in your stomach. This is better than nothing. I do hope you feel better soon.

Good luck with work. I know how it feels when you are just laying around doing nothing, you feel as you could be at work doing something. Good luck!
